Coach's Briefing

Your team is batting .340 as a group but struggling with two-strike approaches — 6 of your last 12 strikeouts came looking. Today's plan emphasizes contact hitting and situational awareness to address this directly.

Warmup & Throwing (5:00–5:15)

Setup: Two lines from foul line, partners 30 feet apart Execution: Dynamic stretch sequence, then 4-seam grip focus — every throw calls out the grip before release Coaching Cues: "Fingers on top, thumb underneath — show me the grip before you throw"

Hitting Stations (5:15–5:40)

Setup: Three stations — tee work, soft toss, live front toss Execution: Rotate every 7 minutes. Two-strike drill at tee station: choke up one inch, shorten swing, make contact Coaching Cues: "Two strikes? Choke up and put it in play. Heroes swing for the fences, winners put the ball in play."

Fielding Fundamentals (5:40–6:00)

Setup: Ground ball lines at SS and 2B, coach at home Execution: 10 reps each — routine grounder, backhand, charge. Add throw to first last 5 minutes Coaching Cues: "Get in front of it first, glove down second, throw third. In that order, every time."

Situational Baseball (6:00–6:20)

Setup: Full infield, baserunners at first Execution: Runner on first, various counts — call the situation before each pitch. What's the play? Where does the ball go? Coaching Cues: "Know the situation before the pitch. No surprises."

Huddle Moments

  • Why do baseball players make good friends? Because they always catch you when you fall — or at least they try to!
  • Chant: "D-backs on three — one, two, three, D-BACKS!"
